St Jude's Church of England Primary School

Home Learning

At St. Jude's, homework is designed to support learning, build independence, and develop good study habits. We believe it should be purposeful, manageable, and meaningful, helping pupils to consolidate skills learned in class and extend their curiosity beyond the school day. Homework also encourages family involvement in learning and fosters a sense of responsibility and self-discipline. Our approach balances practice, creativity, and enjoyment, ensuring that homework is a positive and supportive part of each child’s educational journey.

Homework will be sent out weekly on Fridays to be collected on the following Wednesday.

Homework tasks will focus on consolidation of learning that has been happening throughout the week at school, as well as foundational skills that support learning.

Scruffy Puppy!

Meet Scruffy - a pup who loves adventures! Scruffy is handed to a child each Friday who has embodied the value of the term. Children are encouraged to take Scruffy with them wherever they go during the weekend (or just at home), take photos and write about him in his book.

Reading

Your child will have a reading record, which allows you to keep track of how many times you read together with your child in the week.

Adults at school will also check this to ensure they are receiving ample opportunity to practice and increase their love or reading at home.
